Sustainable mobility is changing the automotive world, but also people's behavior. The latter in fact have some doubts and perplexities about the electric.

  • The purchase cost
  • Autonomy
  • Charging at home

The purchase cost

One of the main aspects of sustainable mobility is cost acceptance. People currently view cars with a critical mind. Very often end users are used to knowing how to independently evaluate a thermal car. The speech changes slightly with electric cars.

The latter in fact have different prices than thermal cars, as they are new in terms of technology. A person with a spending budget of € 20,000 will have to change their behavior and attitude towards a new car. In fact, if "Mario" were to change cars, he could spend € 20,000 on a thermal car or € 20,000 on an electric car.

Of course we all know that electric cars have higher costs than thermal cars. It should also be considered that people's behavior varies according to the cost of the car. In fact, if a family needs a large car, the purchase of an electric family car for € 20,000 is probably not feasible.

The perception of people therefore changes significantly, and it is necessary to understand how the way they move can be changed. Many people are trying to figure out whether it is possible to live without a car. Recent developments in sustainable mobility, such as Car Sharing, allow people to use more spacious cars for a few hours within large cities.

A neighborhood community develops much more, to the detriment of daytime or weekend trips out of town. In case the children go to school or to find their friends in the neighboring streets, instead of crossing entire cities, if the car is not available. Trips during the summer or winter period could be made using public transport, such as trains or buses.

Autonomy

In the event that the person buys an electric car, there is however the problem of autonomy . The latter, as we know, can also be comparable to a full tank of petrol, but it is not in terms of refilling. In fact, we cannot yet think of choosing any destination, ignoring the charging stations. In Italy, many columns do not have the fast mode: this creates important problems when planning the trip.

For hybrid cars the problem does not exist, but instead it is important for electric cars. In fact, if we are planning a nice weekend in the Tuscan hills, we cannot ignore making stops in the places where the electric columns are present.

In the planning phase of the trip, we must also think about the fact that the latter may already be occupied by the time we arrive. Here is how a choice B must always be ready, during the planning phase. All this was not necessary during the thermal car holidays. A petrol or diesel station is present everywhere, within our state.

This is therefore how, currently, electric cars are perfect especially for short trips. Within the city walls they are ideal, and therefore allow optimal management of daily journeys. We also remind you that the range of electric cars is greatly influenced by intense traffic, as well as by external atmospheric conditions.

There is clearly some advice that can be followed by people buying electric cars. Surely a gentle driving style, thus excluding sudden acceleration and high speeds, can safeguard battery and autonomy. We also use the air conditioner sparingly, as it can easily lead to a deterioration of autonomy.

Each electric car has also been equipped (almost always) with an energy saving function. Let's remember to activate it in order to optimize autonomy. Lastly, it is advisable to always drive the car with tires inflated to the right level. This aspect is also recommended for thermal cars, but even more so for electric cars.

Charging at home

The third key factor that can change people's behavior is charging at home. We all know how important public top-ups are, but they are linked to higher operating costs.

In fact, if a person decides to install photovoltaic panels on his roof, electric charging is very cheap. In the event that the car is not recharged at home by photovoltaic panels, we must consider an increase in the power of your meter, or the installation of a wallbox.

So here is a change linked to the way of living the house that can be directed towards a more electric consumption, abandoning gas for cooking. This is an aspect that may seem secondary, but it is nevertheless part of a total reconsideration of people's lives.

Those who own a terraced house or live in the countryside can very well install photovoltaic panels in order to change their way of interacting with the electric car. As soon as a photovoltaic system is installed, then there can also be a modification for the kitchen compartment.

In fact, if electricity comes from its own renewable sources (small wind turbines or photovoltaics), it has a very low cost. Being closely connected to external energy sources does nothing but prevent energy autonomy. This is true both for the individual citizen, but also for the Italian community. Italy is still little dependent on renewable energy sources and very dependent on non-renewable energy sources.

In this article we have seen how the electric revolution is not linked only to cars as such. The behavior of people changes, depending on the type of tool they use and its characteristics. Once people used to buy audio cassettes for their cars, while today everything is digitized. CD players are no longer available in many cars. As technology changes, the way an object is used changes.

The future of electric cars is fundamentally linked to the arrival of solid state batteries. With this new technology, the autonomies should increase considerably… and drastically decrease the charging times. It will no longer take tens and tens of minutes to recharge a car, but a few minutes.

As a new era dawns, the room for improvement in electric cars is considerable. We will see how, over the next few months and years, people's behavior will change as electric cars change.
