With the holidays coming, many people are speculating about buying a caravan. Let's find out together, however, the details related to the tow hook.

2021 could be the truly turning point in the caravan market. With the progressive continuation of the coronavirus and the need to be able to move in total freedom as much as possible, many Italians are thinking about buying a caravan.

Obviously, this structure needs to be hooked to the car by means of a tow hook . Clearly we cannot do the installation of a towbar in an imperfect way. For this reason, we show you the main aspects to consider.

Normally the best known are those that allow towing of aspects with a fully loaded mass not exceeding 750 kg . Obviously the hook must have been made according to current regulations, and it must not be absolutely out of law.

Once we have observed the documentation contained within the booklet, we must also observe the testing . In fact, it is not enough to buy this product online and then install it. We must in fact carry out the testing. Our advice is therefore to have the assembly carried out by competent technicians who must comply with the rules contained in Article 78 of the Highway Code.

Once the test has been carried out, it is also necessary to modify the booklet in order to certify the installation of the tow hook. We must therefore go to the Civil Motorization and fill in the appropriate forms that will be delivered to us.

There are different types of tow hooks that can be retractable or permanent external. Also depending on the type of tow hook, you can allow the towing of a caravan or a simple small light trailer, and the costs change considerably. In fact, as regards the new tow hooks, we can start from around € 150 up to over € 500 in the case of large campers. Always remember that it is also possible to buy second-hand hooks as long as they are built according to all the regulations currently in force.

Obviously if we are going to install a tow bar, we must also consider that this aspect will be overhauled with the car during the overhaul. In fact, let us remember that during the revision phase all the aspects that have been installed and defined approved by the Highway Code are checked. Therefore, if we have a tow hook that is not approved, during the revision phase, it will certainly be eliminated. For this reason it is absolutely not convenient for anyone to insert a non-approved tow hook inside our car. It would at least be a cost in the first place but also in the second place.

Obviously, after the first four years from the first registration, we should also carry out the traditional other inspections that must be carried out every two years.

Our final advice is therefore to go to a shop dedicated exclusively to car products or to go to the car showroom where we bought our car . The latter will be able to tell us the cost of the tow hook that must be installed compatible with our car.
