In the event that our beloved car has suffered damage whose cost is higher than the value of the car itself, or we want to purchase a new vehicle, with therefore the obligation of scrapping, here is a useful guide in this regard. .

We all grow fond of the car we have for good or bad. It is in fact part of our life and part of our family. The most loyal will try not to super separate from it, but almost always we will be forced to have to sell it or worse still scrap it.

In simple terms, the rottamazione means the destruction of the car as it has such a low value that it makes no sense to continue to manage it. It may happen that we have suffered damage to the car, the repair of which has a higher cost than the value of the car and we could not afford this aspect. Alternatively, given the modern incentive policies for the purchase of new cars, the Italian government in fact pushes a lot on the possibility of obtaining important discounts in the event that cars are purchased by scrapping the previous one.

There are therefore basically two possibilities for scrapping a car. The first is to go to an Authorized Demolition Center or go to a dealership if you want to buy a new car.

If we buy a new car, the cost of scrapping is practically zero and we also benefit from incentives for the purchase of a new car. If, on the other hand, we want to scrap the car as we are not interested in buying a new one, we can go to a wrecker, and the latter will have to be paid.

In both cases, however, we should respect very specific times in order to cancel the car from the Public Automobile Register. Only the owners of the cars can proceed to carry out the scrapping of the car.

When deciding to scrap the car, we must deliver the license plate, vehicle registration document and paper ownership certificate or the new single registration and ownership document.

In case we have a digital ownership certificate, demolition centers can immediately authorize the radiation to the PRA.

As soon as we have delivered all these documents, the car to be scrapped has about 30 days to be canceled by the PRA. The former owner of the car must also receive from the dealership or the wrecker, a certificate of destruction in which all the vehicle data can be found and the commitment to provide for the cancellation request from the PRA.

In this case, any aspect of civil and administrative liability and liability is lifted.

The cost of scrapping is quite low:

  • ACI emoluments of € 13.5;
  • stamp duty around € 34

to which all costs related to scrapping at an authorized demolition center must be added.

In the event that the car is subject to an administrative stop, scrapping is not allowed and therefore we must first check if the car is free from any constraints or administrative problems.
