The Italian-French group presented the results of the experimentation of particular and innovative functions for the cars of the future.

Innovating within the automotive world is truly fundamental. Currently the cars are equipped with second level assisted driving technologies and the next step is obviously to raise the bar and reach the third level.

Stellantis has conducted experimental studies and has now decided to present the first results at a conference organized by the Brenner motorway, held in Trento.

We are talking about a project carried out in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as well as obviously other partners and co-financed by the European Commission.

The project is called C-Roads Italy and was carried out within the Italian territory even if the repercussions are obviously international.

Tests are also currently being carried out in these hours and days and are being developed on 500x and Maserati Ghibli.

To find these forms of tests we must go to the A22 motorways in the Trento area or to the Venice ring road but also on the A4 and A28 sections.

Level 3 is called Highway Chauffeur and is a vehicle automation feature that allows you to adjust speed as well as change lanes automatically.

The main objective of these tests is to evaluate the effectiveness of these technologies on a positive impact of safety, but also on the fluidity of traffic.

Very often motorists, especially during days of intense traffic, brake excessively and cause queues with the risk of an accident even where it was not necessary. In this way, if there was a total fluidity of traffic, we will have a much less congested situation and the motorway sections could be traveled much faster and with less risk of accidents.

An important detail is also the focus on communication between the vehicle and the motorway network, which makes it possible to exploit information from the infrastructure network to know the real travel time as well as obviously having safe and comfortable autonomous driving.

All data are obviously georeferenced so that the vehicle can have interesting information for its own stretch of motorway and for its area of competence.

Before carrying out a road test, this system had been tested in the laboratory in order to apply all the data and possible motorway situations. By connecting to the infrastructure network, all information related to work in progress, stationary vehicle or adverse weather can arrive.

We will see how these results will be converted into the first level III driving aid systems and will be placed in the production cars that we can find in our showrooms.

Our wish is to see these interesting news on Fiat and on all the vehicles belonging to the Stellantis group as soon as possible.
